Here's a possible mod for the squelch issue. I would refer any Receive and Transmit adjustments to someone who has the proper required test equipment so the radio stays on frequency ect. VR2=RX "S" Meter Adjust VR4=Modulation AMC Adjust VR6=Ant. VR1=Receive "IF" Gain Adjust VR3=Squelch Range Adjust VR5=TX Meter Adjust "Model: Cobra 29 LTD WX Classic (Newer model made in China. If you feel confidant, get out the gold plated butter knife and try to adjust VR3 which is the squelch threshold pot inside the radio on newer 29 WX's: My problem is with receiving and squelch levels. I am using a magnetic mount Weather capable antenna on my van that is supposed to be for this unit.Īll in all, I am not pleased with my purchase.Īnybody heard specifics about the Sound Tracker feature? I found a way to disable it in a Cobra bulletin # 10012, but that is only for transmitting. I figured there would have been a vast improvement in the 30years since then, but I was mistaken. Other Thoughts: I bought this thinking it would be a lot better than my Radio Shack Realistic TRC 428 that I bought in 1982. This may be the cause of the receiving partial transmissions. It does quiet it down if you don't use noise limiter, but no more than the noise limiter does. My old unit would be silent until somebody transmitted and then I would hear the whole transmission.ģ) The Sound Tracker doesn't seem to do anything.

Set in between, the background noise fades in and out all the time. To hear the whole transmission, the squelch needs to be turned down and then you get the background noise.

It will cut off background noise and then half of what somebody is transmitting. The book states that this is normal operation.Ģ) Reception -I can't get the squelch to operate correctly, or the way I expect it to work. You have to turn it to 0 channel to stop the noise. When it comes on, it uses the loudest volume setting, no matter where it is set, for checking the weather alert system. I bought this nice new Cobra 29 WX NW ST radio and I am wondering if other people have the same issues that I have.ġ) You can't keep the weather control on a weather station if the unit power goes off when the vehicle is turned off.
